Tell the story of your Business with the new Facebook Timeline for Brand Pages

Our good friends at Q4Launch have explained the new Facebook Timeline changes that will be automatically implemented on March 30th for your business page.  Please read to learn how to use this change to your advantage.

Facebook Timeline for Brand Pages!

Today Facebook rolled out Timeline for Brand Pages. Some of you may be groaning over this news, while others are ready to embrace it as an exciting opportunity to tell the story of your brand!  You may be asking, how do I use Facebook Timeline for brand pages, or what is Facebook Timeline?  At Q4Launch, we are getting excited to revamp our current clients’ pages, as well as our own Facebook pages with tons of new information to better tell our story.

The first thing you should know, is that you do NOT have to update your brand page until MARCH 30!  This will give you time to get together with your team to develop a social media strategy, and discuss how you want to focus your efforts on your page. We will highlight some of the bigger changes below.

Timeline Photo

This is one of the most exciting things that come with the new Facebook Timeline roll out. With this cover photo or image, you can showcase your specials for the week, some of your biggest fans, or a map to show where you can be found.  Take the time to think through what imagery will work for you and your brand. If you need help with designing your Timeline cover photo, we would love to sit down with you and help. If you’re off to get working on this now, the dimensions are 850 pixels wide  x 315 pixels tall. The little coke bottle image you see above is where your existing and past profile graphics go. The dimensions for this image are 125 pixels wide x 125 pixels tall. This is also the image that Facebook is using as the thumbnail displayed in search results.

History History History!

Facebook Timeline allows you to tell the history of your brand.  It is a unique opportunity to tell your story and communicate your company history to your fans!  This will be a great way to share how you got to where you are today. With the new Facebook Timeline feature, you will be able to go back in time before Facebook was able to document your every move, and you will be able to upload company milestones that have truly defined your brand and company!

Coca Cola was founded in 1886 and they showed their fans what that looked like with the new Facebook Timeline feature. We would suggest taking some time to figure out what the big milestones were for you and your company.  For example, think about when you opened that second location, when you added a new team member, and when you served your first customer, etc.  Here is another shot of what the time line looks like with the dates.

A Few Questions We’re Still Working Out…

1. Whats happening with Tabs? They are still there for now in the information bar.

2. Will we be able to specify specific landing pages or tabs like we use to with Welcome Pages?

Our Final Tip

Take a moment to breathe. This is not the end of the world. This is going to be great for you and your brand.  It is going to take some time to get used to the new design just like every Facebook update. The way you conduct yourself on Facebook will not change. You can still maintain the same level of customer service, but now you have more tools to better communicate your brand’s story and engage your fans!  We look forward to seeing more of your stories on Facebook Timeline,  and we are here to help you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us and we will walk through everything with you.

Keep a look out for further blogs from Q4Launch in the upcoming weeks, as we will post further content explaining Facebook’s changes and how they will impact your social media strategy and branding.

Hope you found this as helpful as I did.
