PASSION, PURPOSE and PERSEVERANCE

If you haven’t taken the chance to browse my web page in its entirety then you missed one of the most important “things you might not know about me”.  I thoroughly enjoy being physically active and along with that comes trying to feed my body right with good nutrition.  About four years ago I started running; dabbling in some 5K races and then the bridge run.  Since then I have overcome fear, conquered the unknown world of running, biking and swimming and taken some personal risks.  At 47 years old I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life; participating in the James Island County Park Sprint Triathlons, completing my first marathon at the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC and most recently completing my first Olympic Triathlon at Kiawah.  My next two goals are to complete the Charleston Marathon (and qualify for Boston) and then the KOA Half Iron Man in Mt. Pleasant SC.

That takes me to the meat of this blog….PASSION and PERSONAL GOALS!  Do you have it…the PASSION and have you made any…PERSONAL GOALS???  If not I encourage you to find it and make some.   Possessing these in your life can help provide meaning, guidance and personal happiness.  Of course, you don’t have to complete an Iron Man race but consider what makes you happy and focus on that.  Recently, I was visiting Tri-Sports in Mt. Pleasant and we started discussing some of the races that I was considering participating in.  Low and behold they asked me to write down a goal that I plan to accomplish.  Writing down your goals doesn’t have to require a full day of pondering or have to take a formal feel; it can be as simple as just adding activities to a “bucket list” with accomplishment dates or writing something down on a piece of paper and showing it to someone for accountability.  Don’t wait for 2012 to make a New Year’s Resolution…start making goals today and enjoy checking your personal accomplishments off the list.

On a side note:

If you are interested in becoming physically active or even want to increase your physical activity, maybe try something new; below are some suggestions that have helped me along the way.  Please leave a comment on my blog and share your great accomplishments and don’t forget to add the ones you are planning.  If you have any questions or just want some feedback please contact me at don@nelsonprint.com and I would be happy to help in any way I can.
