Family Presents Check to Senator Hollings

July 19, 2012 – Tim Walter, president of Support Breath of Life, Inc. presented the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center with a check for $22,238 from the first annual Breath of Life Fashion Show Fundraiser. Senator Ernest “Fritz” Hollings accepted the donation.

The Breath of Life Fashion Show Fundraiser was held on Friday, June 29, 2012, at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant. The fundraiser celebrated the life of Darlene Westbury Walter, a Mount Pleasant native and model who lost her battle with lung cancer in October 2010 at age 51. The event was created by Darlene’s husband, Tim, and two sons—Price and Cooper—to honor their wife and mother. Through a silent auction, live “cause” auction and ticket sales, the event raised a total of $22,238 and brought in more funds than any other third-party event at MUSC.

Breath of Life is our way of turning this tragedy into an opportunity,” said Tim. “We wanted to do something that would make a difference one day and try to justify Darlene’s cancer. If our efforts can help even one person, Darlene’s wishes will be fulfilled.”

The money raised at Breath of Life will go toward funding lung cancer research at Hollings Cancer Center. Funding required for research projects is generated through events such as Breath of Life, donations and grants.
